cERTIFIED DEATH mIDWIFERY

Liminal Showers, LLC is woman, queer, and BIPOC-owned and operated by me - Danielle N. Sather (Dani, she/her). I advocate for the reclamation and demystification of death by helping others discover what it looks like to die, grieve, and heal well. Every death and grief journey is unique and beautiful. Dying is as sacred as birth and warrants the same level of care, preparation, and advocacy. We all deserve the opportunity to die and grieve with dignity, not matter the circumstance.

cOMPASSIONATE GUIDANCE AND ADVOCACY FOR THE DYING, DEAD, AND BEREAVEd

A death midwife is a person in service to the dying, dead, and bereaved by filling the gaps between medical fields and the funeral industry. Our job is to advocate on your behalf in hopes of helping to empower your reclamation of death as our final, sacred rite-of-passage. Death is a transformative, social experience and should be honored as such. We provide support before, during, and after death to the dying and their loved ones.

What is a death midwife?

Why should I consider hiring a death midwife?

Facing death and losing a loved one often comes with a significant amount of anxiety and fear; but it doesn’t have to. While we cannot fully alleviate anticipatory grief (grief before death or in anticipation of the death of a loved one), we can help remove unnecessary burdens. When facing death and loss, you deserve the opportunity to be fully precent with your loved ones without the burden of paperwork, family conflict, or feelings of isolation.

What services can a death midwife offer?

Death midwives can provide all essential end-of-life care besides administering medication. We listen, provide resources, offer emotional support, encourage healthy and sacred practices for saying goodbye, educate, validate all causes of grief, officiate memorials and funerals, facilitate loving vigils, and guide loved ones through cleaning and preparing the body of a beloved dead (among other services unique to each individual experience). I help my clients identify and complete all important documents needed to honor final wishes, develop a death plan that fits within budget, and grapple with grief journeys. I make myself available to clients as they see fit from daily conversations, to planning, to facilitating each step of the dying process.

Fundraising Support

My father’s death was messy because of the all too familiar story - he did not complete his death planning documents. This meant that many of the most important questions around honoring his death legacy were left to be answered by those grieving his death most deeply. This also meant that non of his assets were specifically allocated to body disposition. He sat in a morgue for weeks while funds were sought to pay for the most inexpensive option of body disposition. I know this story to be true for many, but there are options.

With over a decade of experience in grant writing, fundraising, and crowdfunding experience, I am here to provide support to quickly raise the funds you need to honor your beloved dead.

*While I fundraise through my business on behalf of individuals and nonprofit organizations that are aligned with my mission, I do not provide grant writing support for nonprofit organizations.

Death Midwife Speaking Engagement

Do you need a speaker for an upcoming event?

Certified by The Death Midwife under the instruction of Rev. Angie Buchanan, having experienced multitudes of personal grief, and holding the privilege of witnessing the sacred deaths of beloved loved ones, I come with a great wealth of information regarding. I love exploring, validating, and speaking about grief. I find great interest in exploring possibilities of the death experience (scientific and spiritual). Most of all, I have dedicated my life to advocacy and activism for our most disenfranchised neighbors. People deserve to know their rights and alternative options to what we might consider “traditional” death practices. I would love to share my knowledge at your event. Contact me for more information regarding content, specializations, resources, DEI coaching, and pricing. I look forward to working with.

Sharing Grief

Share your Greif Journey

The more we come to learn about death, the dying process, and what it means to die well, the more we approach our abilities to lead joyful lives and be present in our day-to-day. Studies show that those who contemplate or meditate on death regularly, lead happier lives. These people have let go of their fear of death, embrace it as part of the human experience, and recognize - as my certification teacher, Rev. Angie Buchanan, stated - that death is not a punishment for living. The same can be true about grief. Grief is not a punishment for loving. It is a gift. Grief brings painfully deep wisdom that connects us to the greater collective. If you have a grief story you would like to share, visit the Liminal Showers, LLC blog for a bit of inspiration and reach out to me when you are ready.
